Packing It Up....

Alright guys, hang tight with me for the next two weeks or so....
The good news is... MY WIFE AND I ARE GETTING A HOUSE!!!

But the bad being, I have to burn through some of my supplies, pack away the rest, and more importantly devote a lot of time to moving in general...

So hang in there, and in the mean time, enjoy yet another one of my energy drink cocktails.  You'll be seeing a lot....

Nightmare Juice
3oz Monster Energy drink
3oz Midori Melon Liqueur
3oz Lemonade
Twist of Lime

Add all ingredients in generously into a cup filled with crushed ice and finish by twisting the lime on top.
The color is absolutely trippy....

I know it seems a lot like my last drink but trust me, every drop of Midori counts for something.  This unusual concentration of it makes it to be a sweet and almost creamy texture, but balanced by the acidity of the Monster and Lime.

I promise I'll have more ingredients and hopefully a wine review soon!!!

Laziness.....

Hey guys!
Sorry I haven't been posting in a while but I've been really tied up with work.  My next day off is a is October 13....

So,  I promise I will have some new material posted soon but in the mean time, here's what I'm drinking tonight.

Monster Energy Drink Import (550ml/ 18.6oz can)
3.5oz Kraken Black Spiced Rum (Release the Kraken!!!)
1/2oz Homemade Cinnamon Syrup (see recipe below)
Twist of 1/2 Key Lime

Add crushed ice to a large cup (like a hurricane glass!) and drizzle syrup around ice in an inconsistent way.  Pour rum over ice next, followed by th energy drink.  Twist the lime and then rim the glass with the remaining piece.

Cinnamon Syrup
1 1/4 cup water
1 1/4 raw sugar (turbinado is fine but I prefer demarara)
4-5 dried cinnamon sticks

Combine water and sugar in a saucepot and let simmer over medium-low heat while stirring until fully dissolved.  Let it reduce down to about one cup of liquid.  Take off heat and add cinnamon sticks.  Let chill overnight and it's ready to use.

Starmont Sauvignon Blanc. A Real Man's White Wine.

So today at work a vendor comes through with two supplies from a company out of California called Merry Vale (Merry Vale Vineyards).  Their proposal was for a line of wine called Starmont from their Napa vineyard, starring a Carneros Chardonnay priced fairly under $20.  We did a small tasting after a few minutes of negotiation and uncalled-for amounts of profanity.  It started very peachy and fruity followed by a butterscotch creaminess.

Not my thing....

But...  There were two more wines up for grabs.  a Cabernet which was a little too prolific for my consumer base, and a Sauvignon blanc that stood out.  Just to note, all of the wines were rated at least 90 points by Wine Spectator Magazine, and for a damn good reason.

The Sauvignon Blanc was astounding.  It was full of many fragrant notes like hibicus and honeysuckle that lingered long after the drink was done.  Now I do say this in a good way.  I've had Sauv Blancs before where I couldn't get the taste out for days....  It was surprisingly balanced in terms of a Napa white: Mild acidity, mild sweetness, not too dry, and very smooth body.

This is an amazing wine all in all, and not too mention it's about fourteen to seventeen dollars.  This would be perfect for any type of creamy seafood dish or even with a sweet white corn bisque.  If anyone in the New Orleans area needs a bottle, send me a message.  I can tell you where to go.

Berries and Boubon!!!

Alright! Time for yet another blog update from your friendly neighborhood liquor guy!
Since I have a long lasting passion for Bulleit Bourbon, it is naturally my first choice for any cocktails containing the remarkable spirit.
Although most "purists" of Bourbon would prefer to drink it straight and others even so demand that it not be chilled in any way, shape, or form;  I think even they can appreciate the simplicity and wonders behind this elegant cocktail.

FIRST!!!!

You need bourbon....  Like i said, I prefer Bulleit....  Almost an even blend of corn and rye, it makes for a smooth drink.  Choose what you like but one thing is essential: Straight 90 proof Kentucky Bourbon.

So...

3oz of your favorite bourbon  (Bulleit.......)
About 2 or 3 ripe blueberries or blackberries
A pinch of sugar (preferably raw)
A few good large ice cubes.

So like i said, it's simple.  The technique is where it's at.

Coat the berries in the sugar, just roll them around until they have a little bit of frost to them.
Drop them in the glass, follow by the ice cubes.  Very lightly, mash the cubes into the berries, forcing out just a small amount of juice.  And pour the spirit on top.

At first, you'll taste just straight whiskey.  Nice and smooth.  But shortly thereafter, it will be followed by an intense little burst of sweetness!  The effect of the juice bleeding upwards though the bourbon is amazing and the taste doubly so.

Give it a shot!  You wont be disappointed!

A Little Bit on the Green Side.

So my wife's birthday was on Saturday (she turned 22 for the third year running...), and while at the restaurant, I had noticed a cocktail that kinda caught my eye called a Gator Bite.  Being in Louisiana, everything here has a theme.... including the Zydeco and Gris Gris pizzas on the menu...

But anyway, it listed that it was made from 7-up, melon liqueur, and coconut rum.  It also listed that it was $7 a drink SO later that night, I went home to try and proportion it out into a drinkable mix.  Here's the results:

3-4oz - 7up (or lemon-lime soda of your choice)
2oz - Cruzan Coconut Rum
1oz - Midori Melon Liqueur

I found the best method is to pour the Midori in first over a glass of crushed ice,  then add the rum and 7up simultaneously.  This allows it to be combined yet slightly layered for an interesting feel.

It really is a simple cocktail, but definitely worth a taste or two (but maybe not worth seven bucks....)

Good drinking!
